Depictions mainly of metal craft and sculpture classes at the Harlem Community Arts Center, in Harlem, New York, produced for the documentary project "Changing New York," done for the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project, in 1938-1939, consisting of views of young African American male students taking classes at the Center; and a street view of businesses located at 422-424 Lenox Avenue, in Harlem. Also included are two studio portraits of men (ca. 1929-1939), one who is identified as M. Stinnette.
Content: Two photographs bear photographer's hand stamp on verso; many items bear hand stamp of the Federal Art Project on verso. One item bears typewritten caption label attached to verso; some items bear handwritten captions on verso. One item bears an inscription and is mounted. Some items are duplicates.

Biographical/historical: Berenice Abbott, 1898-1991, was an American photographer who was best known for her documentary project, "Changing New York," for the Federal Art Project (1935-1939) which chronicled the neighborhoods and architecture of Manhattan.
