DescriptionInterview with Erik Bruhn conducted by John Gruen as research for his book Erik Bruhn: danseur noble (1979), in Copenhagen, Denmark, on July 19, 1977. This is Part 5 of an 18-part series. However, there is no audio for parts 2 and 10, which are available only as edited transcripts.

Speaking with John Gruen, Erik Bruhn translates, with extensive commentary, an article he wrote for a Danish-language anthology, in which he describes his emotional and psychological self in the context of his career, including: his hope that one day he can appear truly as he is without artifice and disguise; his feelings about death; the gift and the burden of his talent; his periods of depression and exhaustion; his needs and goals as a dancer and as a person; his dislike of stasis and routine; living his life in the present; advising others as a friend and as a teacher; his thoughts about his own death.
