DescriptionDocumentary on Grand Central dances, a performance event conceived, produced, and directed by Elise Bernhardt of Dancing in the Streets, and presented in Grand Central Terminal, New York, on October 9 and 10, 1987. Participants were the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, the Lucinda Childs Dance Company, juggler Michael Moschen, Stephan Koplowitz and Company, highwire artist Philippe Petit, and Paul Thompson/Troop Three. Statistics and views of the terminal are followed by scenes of preparations and rehearsals for the event. Merce Cunningham, Stephan Koplowitz, Tony Giovannetti (the event's director of production), Philippe Petit, and Paul Thompson share their observations of working in the space. Organizer Elise Bernhardt discusses the program's inspiration. Comments are also offered by Peter E. Stangl and Susan Gilbert of Metro-North Commuter Railroad.
