Description
Interview with Dennis Wayne and Joanne Woodward conducted by John Gruen, as host, for broadcast on August 2, 1976 by radio station WNCN, New York on its series The sound of dance. Streaming audio file (approximately 58 minutes). John Gruen, host, introduces Joanne Woodward; Gruen and Woodward speak about her interest in dance and her relationship with Dennis Wayne's new company, Dancers; Dennis Wayne speaks about forming Dancers after leaving American Ballet Theatre; the dancers in the company; Woodward and Wayne speak about the company [a recording of Mozart's Piano concerto no. 21, K.417, in C major, Adagio movement, used in Gerald Arpino's ballet Secret places, is played]; Gruen, Wayne, and Woodward speak about Wayne's business plan for a self-sustaining company, including a theater and a school; fund raising; the repertory and management style envisioned for the company [a recording of an excerpt from Sinfonía india (Symphonies, no. 2) by Carlos Chávez is played]; Woodward speaks about how she came to be interested in ballet; Gruen, Wayne, and Woodward speak about the upcoming season including the extent to which Wayne will be dancing; more on fund raising; closing remarks and announcements.
