Content: Printed on border: "One of the great and almost insurmountable difficulties attendant upon the settlement of a new country is that of rearing farm stock, and preserving it from the attacks of wild beasts." "A Mrs. John Austin, of Geneva Township, one day, while her husband was absent from home, was alarmed by the sound of an unusual commotion among her pigs, and looking in the direction fo the sty, which stood just back of the cabin, she beheld a bear just in the act of climbing over the enclosure among a group of three or four promising shoats..." Includes additional text.
