Notes
Content: Printed on image: "Novum Testamentum 1521" "Sancta Elisabethus". The former text is possibly a reference to the Greek text of the New Testament edited by Erasmus and used by Luther for his translation of the Bible into German during his stay at the Wartburg. St. Elizabeth of Hungary lived at the Wartburg in her childhood. The minstrel figure is possibly a reference to the Sängerkrieg, a contest among minstrels that allegedly took place at the Wartburg. The knight possibly depicts the Landgrave of Thuringia (1190-1217), who was famous for his patronage of poets at the Wartburg.
Statement of responsibility: "Verlag von Fischer & Franke, Berlin." "Druck von Emil Herrmann senior, Leipzig."
