Content: This recording seems to be a rehearsal of a lecture by Merce Cunningham about his choreography, to be given at an unspecified date and location.
Content: Title and date provided by cataloger based on audition and handwritten note affixed to the original reel hub; based on the speaker's references to specific tour locations and the premiere of Winterbranch, this reel was likely recorded in early (March) 1964.

Extent: 1 audiotape reel (31 minutes) : analog, 7 1/2 ips, half track, mono ; 7 in.
Sound quality is poor; at times, Merce Cunningham's voice is inaudible and begins and ends abruptly. There are ongoing background noises that occasionally consist of a recording of Cunningham's voice at a very low volume level. There are occasional recording gaps.

Merce Cunningham speaks in short statements (recorded in separate takes) about dance and his choreography, including the spoken introduction for upcoming performances and short anecdotes from his [Merce Cunningham Dance] Company's tours; (ca. 20:00) more on his choreography and his compositional use of chance methods; use of music and sound in his works.
