Manchester and Carolyn Watts discuss the the violin solo in 19th century Russian ballet; recorded at WGUC-FM, the radio station of the University of Cincinnati, for the radio program Arabesques, and broadcast on the National Public Radio network, in 1975. Streaming audio file (approximately 30 minutes). [Music and announcements.] P.W. Manchester and Carolyn Watts discuss the obligatory violin solos in 19th century Russian ballets; in the course of their discussion, recordings of examples taken from the following ballets and composers, respectively, are played: Raymonda, by [Aleksandr Konstantinovich] Glazunov; Don Quixote by [Ludwig] Minkus; The sleeping beauty and Swan lake by [Peter Illich] Tchaikovsky, and Les millions d'Arlequin by [Richard] Drigo [closing announcement as the Drigo music is ending].
