Interview with Cynthia Gregory and John Gruen on The today show with Gene Shalit as host; telecast by WNBC-TV on April 10, 1975. Streaming audio file (approximately 10 minutes). Gene Shalit, host, introduces John Gruen, author of the Private world of ballet (1970), and Cynthia Gregory; John Gruen speaks about Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev; the athleticism of ballet dancers; Gregory speaks about Nureyev, who will be partnering her in the near future; Gruen speaks about the artistic motives behind the defections of Nureyev, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Natalia Makarova; George Balanchine and his wives, including Balanchine's comments to Gruen on the subject; Gregory and Gruen speak about Balanchine's choreography; Gregory speaks about following the music when she dances, as contrasted with the conductor following her [Gruen begins to speak about interviewing Alicia Markova; Shalit cuts him off; program ends].
