Description
A moment from Act II of a Viennese production of Louis Henry's ballet Adelaide di Francia. The scene depicts a prison in Pavia in the tenth century. Adelaide, widow of Lottario, king of Italy, and the youthful envoy of Ottone I, emperor of Germany, are being rescued from the tower in which they were incarcerated. A guard and the jailer, still faithful to their queen, overpower three sleeping guards.
