Biographical/historical: Lucia Elizabeth Bartolozzi Vestris was an English-born actress and singer who owed her illustrious last name to her brief marriage to the dancer and ballet master Armand Vestris. She frequently played breeches roles such as Cherubino in Mozart's opera The marriage of Figaro, or Oberon in Shakespeare's A midsummer night's dream. Kane O'Hara's Midas was a burletta, a form of musical drama resembling a comic opera, first presented privately in 1760, then revised and expanded for performances in Dublin in 1762 and at Covent Garden Theatre in London in 1764. Madame Vestris performed the role of Apollo in revivals at the Drury Lane theatre in the 1820-1821 season and at the Haymarket in 1825.

Description
Portrayal of Lucia Elizabeth Bartolozzi Vestris, known as Madame Vestris, costumed for the role of the Greek god Apollo. She wears a laurel wreath and carries the god's signature lyre. In the background is a chariot apparently pulled by three horses and driven by a man surrounded by an aureole, perhaps another manifestation of the god.
