The Guichard Parris Photograph Collection chronologically documents a portion of his professional career with photographs from the National Youth Administration (NYA), the National Urban League, and the National Council of Negro Women.
Content: Born in the French West Indies, Parris received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Amherst College (1927), and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University (1932). In addition to his work with the National Urban League, Parris was a college instructor (1930-1936), Director of the Negro National Youth Administration for Region I. (1939-1942), an urban affairs consultant for Underwood Jordan Associates (1968-1978), and served as president of the Schomburg Corporation (1984-1986). He also served as president of the Catholic Interracial Council of New York.
Content: Guichard Parris was the Director of Public Affairs for the National Urban League from 1946-1971, a position he created after working with the League for two years. As Director of Public Relations, Parris worked to provide information to the public about the Leagues activities and black achievements.
Content: Photograph album of 1953 National Urban League Annual Conference is fragile. Album has been created in the National Urban League 40th Anniversary Year Book from 1950,and original yearbook pages have been torn out.
