Description
Collection depicts libraries and library services to African Americans, mainly in New York City, from the 1930s to the 1980s with the bulk of the collection dating from the 1950s to the 1980s. Views and activities of the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture may be found in the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture Photograph Collection. Other library-related images may be found in the Regina Andrews Photograph Collection and the North Manhattan Project Photograph Collection. Included in the collection are images of librarians and patrons in adult reading rooms and children's rooms and views of book talks and exhibits. Exterior views show library buildings, a ground breaking ceremony, and a bookmobile (Washington D.C.). Interior views include the 115th Street and Harlem River Branches of The New York Public Library, the Bedford Branch of the Brooklyn Public Library as well as exterior and interior views of the Countee Cullen Branch of The New York Public Library.
