Funding: Digitization was made possible by a lead gift from The Polonsky Foundation.
Date: The letter is dated from Wayside, the house that the Hawthornes moved into in June 1852 and returned to in 1860, arriving in the US from Europe in June. Una's handwriting in the early 1850s was more immature than appears in this letter.
