Biographical/historical: Born Margaret Fothergill Edwards, this singer studied at the Royal Academy of Music in the late 1830s before touring Italy. She returned to England using the name Margherita or Rita Favanti and was discussed in the press with a combination of both names (Miss Edwards, Mlle Favanti).
