Danielle Toth introduces Prince Suryobrongto [Bendoro Pangeran Haryo Suryobrongto; director of the Palace Dance School, Ameng Bekso, in Yogyakarta] and the format of the interview, namely that she will ask questions in English, and he will reply in Indonesian. In response to Danielle Toth's questions, Bendoro Pangeran Haryo Suryobrongto discusses his early dance training, contrasting it with that now given to pupils at Ameng Bekso; the history of the Ameng Bekso dance troupe; spiritual training for the dance; how everyone in the family of the Sultan [of the Yogyakarta Sultanate] received dance training; what was permitted and what was not; other arts that the family of the Sultan learned; what palace performances were like; wayang wong performances; differences in the Yogyanese and Solo style of dancing; and principal dances performed in Central Java [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
