DescriptionThe first Performance Studies International Conference, hosted by New York University. Papers: "Drag and the empowerment of the erotic’s of the Radical Faeries" / Jay Dorff (8:31-30:20); "The girls of Salome: Wilde and provocative" / Elizabeth Drorbaugh (31:20-55:55); "A brief history of the Cockettes" / Martin Worman (57:54-79:35); "Pansies: the flowers of burlesque" / Joe E. Jeffreys (80:31-103:24). Some of the paper authors, in drag, performed skits, songs and dances during their paper readings. Songs included were from the 1972 Cockettes musical extravaganza "Hot Greeks" ("Hot Greeks and "Accept With the Left, and Shake with the Right” (?) / by Martin Worman and Richard "Scrumbly" Koldewyn). The performances also include dancing to Leiber and Stoller’s “Is that all there is?” (excerpt sung by Peggy Lee) and old Burlesque jokes about gay men.
