Sound quality ranges from good to poor. The voices are sometimes low and difficult to understand. Also, there are occasional extraneous noises and interruptions.
Description
Interview with Valentina Kachouba conducted by Frederick J. Maroth and Elena Maroth on July 11 and 12, 1979 as background for a documentary on Serge Diaghilev by Frederick J. Maroth. Streaming audio file 1 (approximately 46 minutes). Valentina Kachouba speaks about Serge Diaghilev and some of the artists who collaborated with him; Vaslaw Nijinsky; Romola [de Pulszky] Nijinsky; the Ballets russes tour in the United States [in 1916]; Nijinsky, including her first impressions of him; Nijinsky as a person and as a dancer. Streaming audio file 2 (approximately 47 minutes). Valentina Kachouba speaks (again) about her impressions of Nijinsky, as a dancer and as a person including his spirituality; her impressions of Romala Nijinsky; Leonide Massine and the making of his ballet Tricorne [Three-cornered hat]; Nijinsky and the creation of his ballet Till Eulenspiegel; Nijinsky's mental illness; Serge Diaghilev and his gift for discovering and inspiring artists; his involvement in the details of production; Diaghilev's personality; Stanislas Idzikowski as a dancer; Massine as a choreographer, as a dancer, and as a person; Diaghilev's temperament [ends abruptly].
