Description
He intended to set out for Philadelphia Apr. 1st, but the Assembly elected [John] Penn as a delegate in his place; a story had been circulated about him by Penn, that he held two offices, incompatibly with the constitution, being a member of Congress and of the secret committee of Congress, and that he was making a fortune through the latter office; [William] Hooper was chosen also, but resigned the next day, and [Cornelius] Harnett was then elected; the latter is laid up with the gout; sympathizes with Burke, knowing how disagreeable it is to serve alone in Congress, and doubts how much the arrival of Penn will relieve him; he himself will soon set out for Boston to prosecute the owner of the privateer that took his brigantine.
