Notes
Print no. 6 contains the following credits and publication information: R. Gallon pinxt. et lith.; Day & Haghe Lithrs. to the Queen; [Rud]olph [Ackerma]nn['s Eclipse] Sporting Gallery, 191 [Regent St.].
Acquisition: Gift; Alexandra Danilova.
Biographical/historical: The Victoria & Albert Museum of London, which holds examples of prints from this series, identifies the lithographer as Robert S.E. Gallon; according to the credits on this copy of print no. 6, he also painted the image. The Museum notes that the title of the series may have derived from an "operatic choreographic burlesque Sketch" produced in London in the 1840s, and suggests that the subjects may have been the lesser lights of the ballet rather than principal dancers.
Forms part of the Alexandra Danilova collection. Graphics.
