Notes
Print no. 2 contains the following publication information: London, Published Jany. 14th 1843. at Rudolph Ackermann's Eclipse Sporting Gallery, 191 Regent Stt.
Biographical/historical: The Victoria & Albert Museum of London, which holds examples of prints from this series, identifies the lithographer as Robert S.E. Gallon. According to credits on New York Public Library's copy of print no. 6, he also painted the images. The Museum notes that the title of the series may have derived from an "operatic choreographic burlesque Sketch" produced in London in the 1840s, and suggests that the subjects may have been the lesser lights of the ballet rather than principal dancers.
