Jane Dudley and William Bales speak about the start of the Dudley-Maslow-Bales Trio including the role Louis Horst played in bringing Dudley, Bales, and Sophie Maslow together; Bales' work Es mujer; their choice of themes as a reflection of their political views; how they [Dudley, Bales and Maslow] worked together on a dance; summers at Bennington College including the intellectual and artistic environment and the leadership of Robert Devore Leigh; the beauty of the physical environment; Barbara Morgan; using photographs to reconstruct a work; John Martin and his role as a champion of modern dance; Dudley's leaving and rejoining Martha Graham's company; Bales' changing views of Graham technique and Humphrey-Weidman technique including an anecdote about Doris Humphrey; more on summers at Bennington College including the artistic exchange and the atmosphere of asceticism; more on the Dudley-Maslow-Bales Trio including their touring of the college circuit [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
